Ok, I might stop by on the X% or my mountain bike a bit later then. I need to buy some stuff at the bookshop nearby for Frau Scotduke. I could do with some suggestions on how to reduce the play in the gear lever on the X5. I don't want to overtighten it. i had a shifter spindle strip out on my XL60...

steel wool? gasp.
naval jelly. the pink stuff which is a phosphoric acid jell. That and the plastic scrubby pad. The jelly dissolves the rust and the plastic pad removes it. wont scour the chrome as badly.

if the bike came from Minnesota you can be sure it was parked up by early September or October by the latest. Minnesota weather think northern Norway.

just save all the parts. its a nice looking bike as it is. those old Iron Head Harleys weren't the most suave looking bikes to ride but they have their nearanderthal charm. I didn't care for my sons 82 as it was slow and uncomfortable but it had the look.

dittos with the XT and the sight glass but I don't need it as I go by feel. Learned the basics in the early 70's with a 441 Victor. It would be nice to have a compression release on the T25T though. To just kick it through the clutch slips so I have to ease it just a teeny bit past TDC then go by th...
