I think small bit of tube would just be something else to come loose and wreck the engine. I'd be looking to see why the small end moved, as it does not look like it ran hot I would check if the rod is bent (any sign of wear on one side of the piston ?) or if the small end fit is looser than it shou...

Pictures are out of focus but it is a 32cc Cyclemate engine, basically a Cyclemaster engine that was fitted to a frame that Norman were contracted to design and make for them. The give away is the foward facing carb inlet, the cyclemaster wheel engine had a rear facing carb. If I remember correctly ...

It's a 1925 131 cc Cykelaid.

And yes, I have ridden this one at a rally some years back.

At the rally an old chap suggested it did not run, the poor fella got upset when I had one back wheel a foot in the air.
He thought I should have ridden it a bit slower
