I have the AJS variant, the model 20. Engines are not in short supply, as are parts. An engine like yours would be worth about £250 to the right person. Not the easiest to work on, but not the worst either.

Still at the DIY, had a c*r full of crap for the tip. Got 100 yards from the front door and the f**king thing jammed in between gears. A tip, clamp the inner in a vice between a pair of soft jaws,drop the nipple over the cable, and splay the cable with a nail to fill the depression in the nipple. Fill with solder.
