Re: benly small victories.......

Could be a problem with the valve guides if they weren't replaced, oil getting down between the guides and the head? If you can do a compression test I think it's always the best place to start, will let you know if you have a problem with the rings or valves. You could check the timing as well, bot...

Re: T140E no spark

Wouldn't leap to it being the Rita. The Haynes manual give the method for testing the whole ignition circuit, could be a broken wire or knackered coil. The rita is the only thing you can't test so I'd recommend testing everything else first before you spend on a new one.

Re: Reg Number

Thanks for all the posts. As far as I know I have the right paperwork with it (v5?), it's still in the name of the previous owner and he gave me all the bits of paper he had. The bike has been in ireland for several years now but wasn't been on the road so he didn't re-register it. Not really pushed...

Re: Reg Number

I have the paperwork with it, wouldn't be messing with the DVLA if I didn't, they'd probably take the bike off me, and then rough me up a bit for upsetting their filing system!

Re: Reg Number

Thanks for the reply. Didn't know I'd need a M.O.T.
Anyone got any idea what a 50's plate would be worth?
Anyone want a 50's plate?
Just seems a shame to loose it if it's worth something to someone, if not I'll just re-register it.
Thanks.

Reg Number

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice. I've a bike from 1950 with it's original U.K. reg number, I need to get it re-registered here in Ireland so the U.K. reg will be lost. Is it possible to sell the old reg to someone before I re-register it? I know nothing about this kind of thing, but people talk...

Re: amal 276 (the great flood)

Gave the needle a whack in to the seat with a drift, seems to have helped. Still not sure about it and would be glad of any advice with these old carbs.

Re: Panthers....anyone???

Whatever my feelings on sportsters might be, I don't know how valve timing would be causing a "rattle". I know sweet f.a. about Panthers but if the timing is out I would have thought it would just run badly not rattle. Where is the rattle coming from, what kind of rattle..... Bit more info might sto...

Re: CB125S

Not sure I'd recommend it, but what I've done it the past is use a power washer to clean the inside of tanks. If it's a powerful one it will lift the loose rust off, and flush out any sludge. Only problem is drying it after, (and not taking the paint off the outside of the tank while you're doing it...
