Any experience in organising a bike show?

Unread post by triumph5ta » Thu Jan 20, 2011 12:42 pm

I am thinking of organising a charity classic bikes/custom bikes show.
Nothing huge, just a day event with trophies, prizes for different classes.
Maybe a pissup in the evening. Oh alright, definitely a pissup in the evening.
Money to be raised from entry fees, raffles, bar profits, anything really...

I am in central London so would like to hold it near-ish but I realise a venue (such as a pub with a big car park) is hard to find here.

Does anyone have experience of arranging this sort of thing. Does anyone know anyone who does? I realise there are issues with insurance and so on for this sort of event.

The reason I want to do this is two friends of mine Cath Newell and Simon Lambert. Their daughter Ruby was a happy active 5 year old before suffering a heart attack at school in April 2010. The cause was an un-diagnosed heart condition. Ruby survived, just, but suffered severe brain danage and is only slowly recovering. No-one knows how far her recovery will progress. Cath and Simon have set up the Ruby Lambert Trust to raise £300,000 to secure her future treatment.
You can read the whole heart breaking story here:

I was watching the video of Ruby on her first home visit last weekend and remembering what she was like before her illness and I thought I really must get off my arse and do something.
I will post this on other bike forums so you may see this more than once.
Adam.

Very good idea to contact youre local mag rep, they should have a good clue on venues, insurance and all that malarky. Good luck with it, sounds like its for a very good cause :D
