Solex 1700

Unread post by paulcali3 » Thu Oct 10, 2013 6:04 pm

There's a Solex moped, I believe a model 1700 (1960-ish) in my local auction rooms. Will be included in November's collector's sale. It looks to be complete & in good oily rag condition. There is a small iron-cylinder two stroke motor mounted over the front wheel. Any interest? Should I bid for it?

Bit of a slow machine, will do around 25Mph and 200 miles to the gallon.
Like my Berini it takes a bit of getting used to with the engine above the front wheel, especialy in the wet.

If one turned up local to me and was cheap I'd be tempted to buy it.

It would have to be cheap!..not bad for a little(and slow)runabout, for nipping to the shops etc,bit of a novelty...a mountain bike would be quicker.
