Diabetic Insurance?

Unread post by DAVE M2 » Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:26 pm

On Friday I was told that I'm type two diabetic who'll need insulin. I have an appointment to get "organised about treatment" in the next month or so.

On Saturday I got my renewal from Carole Nash. I need to tell them and DVLA, I know. But any idea if I get penalised? I have never had any incident that could affect my driving.

cheers

Dave
I am also Type 2 Diabetic and I am not penalised BUT I am tablet controlled. My twin brother is type 2 on insulin and, as long as DVLA are aware of his condition, his car insurance is not loaded. I would suggest that that would be a fairly common attitude .

We've got a mate who's type two, I've never heard him complain about insurance anymore than anyone else.

I'm a type 1 who has been on insulin for decades. Never had a problem but I'm very fit and uber cautious and test myself very often. Do that and you will be OK. I have been involved in diabetes for years and I gave all the work up a while back because I just plain got sick of watching people kill themselves slowly and deliberately.

Best advice I can give you is to experiment with diet and exercise very regularly. Up to you of course..... But it works for me...

My cousin's a type 1 and has had setbacks. Regular testing helps. She was put on a different type of insulin - that caused the most problems. She was ok until then. Paul's advice sounds good to me.

cheers guys.

my brother has been type one for decades and was a bit of a wild child at 18 but has settled down.
I'm type 2 who was reasonable I suppose

Gave myself the first injection yesterday. Not as bad as I'd imagined but the blood tests hurt like stink.

I don't feel too bad at coughing up to the insurance, they'd refuse a payout if I didn't
