Matchless engine help

Unread post by Mattja2k7 » Sun May 04, 2014 4:04 pm

Hi all, I'm new here to not sure whether this is the right section but here goes...

We live on a farm and have recently moved, when we went through all the sheds we found a matchless g9 engine. I believe it's 500cc. Could anyone shed some light on whether it's worth anything or not. Even some information about it would be cool. I have attached a picture of it below. ... 6%2020.jpg" onclick=";return false;

Thanks in advance.

yes, it has got some value, its a pre unit engine, meaning it would have had a seperate gearbox. even if its seized solid, it will still have value. give it a good soaking in wd40 or even diesel oilm to free off any seized bolts have you checked to see if it turns over, long shot, but worth a go. as for value, mmmm, not sure, im sure its got to be worth at a guess 2 0r 3 hundred quid at least.

G9 was made up to 1958 so its fairly rare. I agree with with JohnR 200 quid if its OK. If its a mass of rust inside then its worth less.

Theres probably someone out there with a G9 who would love that.

I have the AJS variant, the model 20. Engines are not in short supply, as are parts. An engine like yours would be worth about £250 to the right person. Not the easiest to work on, but not the worst either.
