Sturgis 2014

Unread post by jessplop » Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:06 am

A lifelong ambition was made real this August, when I headed for Murrickah and the annual Black Hills Motor Classic at Sturgis, South Dakota. 4183 miles onboard a rented Hardly Toad King, motels, diners, BIG trucks, millions of Harleys, bare naked boobies (almost), the works... I rented the bike in Atlanta GA and reached Sturgis after 2-1/2 days hard riding, I had to be sure that I could cover the distance in that time, to time the return ride.
I also got to see ZZ Top play, which was another one off the list, visited the Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments, rode some very good roads, I made some great new friends and am longing to return, not only to Sturgis, but to see more of the North American continent.

Piccies will follow :)

I rented a Sportster in Vegas - great ride through the canyons of Nevada. Never been to Sturgis and it's on the to do list but there are things higher up. I think the coast of Chile is the trip I really want to do some day.

The whole trip was excellent, including a monster thunderstorm at Kansas City, where I had to slow to 65mph 'cos I could barely make out the tail lights ahead of me. Crossing the Mississippi and the Missouri rivers (missouri about 7 times!), massive trucks and fellow riders.. I'm still buzzing off it :) piccies uploading to furtabuquette as I type...

.. erm.. the Pyrenees piccies are uploading first... :)
