Import shock

Unread post by paulcali3 » Fri May 13, 2016 2:06 pm

Hello folks. I moved back to the UK in 2012 bringing my 1971 Triumph (dismantled) originally registered in UK...now it's running & MOT'd I applied to DVLA for a UK registration. I find that law requires I inform HMRC Customs within 14 days of import date, or a fine of £5 per day is due after 14 days is up. This I calculate means I owe about £7500! Since 2012 I have brought in & successfully registered a HD Sportster, a Norton, (both also originally UK registered from new) & a Guzzi without having to inform or deal with Customs. My query is, how new is this law & do my imports pre-date it? These were all my own bikes, insured taxed & used by me for years in Ireland ; I'm not a trader or dealer. Just hoping someone out there knows something about this.. many thanks.

It was introduced in April 2013 by the looks of it , so you should not be in for a fine ,

I thought it all didn't apply to vehicles brought in from the EU anyway.
