Registering a project

Unread post by Hooli » Tue Jan 24, 2017 8:33 pm

It's still a long way off but I'll ask anyway.

To get a registration on a bitsa I know you need a MOT on the frame number & a dating cert. But when you ride to the MOT what do you display? a blank number plate?

I think you may have to take it for the MOT with a van/trailer Hooli. I registered an NC30 and this is what I had to do for the MOT.

Cheers Geoff

Bah, where's the fun in that?
It's a good year away at least, even if everything goes to plan. I just starting wondering what the answer was recently.

No need for a number plate if you are going to the MoT station as part of the process of registration.

Yep I've done that meself with a Harley I built from bits and pieces, booked it into an mot and rode it there without a plate. The only distinguishing mark was the engine number as it was an aftermarket frame, so they put the engine number on the MOT.
HOWEVER, when I took the bike to be registered, it had to go on a pick-up. And when I got there they made me go away and get a frame number stamped on before they would register it. They then changed my MOT to show its new registration number.

I've taken an imported VW splitscreen van for an MOT before it was UK registered, again with no number plate as that was legal.

Got stopped by a smart harsed young copper on the way home from the MOT who tried to accuse me of breaking the law, so I suggested politely that he check his facts, he did, apologised and sent me on my way.

Hope this helps

Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you!
