honda 1972 honda cb 250

Unread post by hondamad13# » Sun Aug 13, 2017 11:54 am

i have just got this bike and it has poor spark so i have tried to get some coils. It has two single coils but all i seem to get offered is one coil with two ht leads off a later model. My bike has points and i don't know if the later bike has electronic ignition, so i have four small wires and only two on the one offered. I would like to know if it would work and how i would wire it up.

Depends...

Do you have one set of points for both coils or a set per coil?

If it's only one then you should be able to make it work easy enough & it'll run as a wasted spark setup, ie both plugs spark each time & one is wasted as that cylinder has no burnable mixture in at the time. It's how most newer bikes work so a well proven idea.

Oh & welcome.

You could use both sets of points to trigger the coil, but I'm not sure it'd recharge in time at high revs being used twice as much as normal.

Tried a Brit bike sorta place? 6v & 12 coils for those should do the job if they'd not look to far out of place.
