Hi Jimmy,

It wasn't hard work, hard work is doing something you have to do but don't want to be there, like working for the MOD these days. First run out this afternoon and first road-side stop to sort a lack of petrol. The repro fuel tap doesn't seem to be flowing fuel unless the Reserve is also pulled out, of course I had closed the Reserve after filling up with Optimum at Tesco's. Oil leaks from P/chaincase and g/box continue, but, none so far from the push rod tubes (Yea).

It sounds wicked though so I'll run it a bit before having another go at those, and the original fuel tap is going back on as it checks out OK.

The Loch Lomond rendezvous may have to wait however  .

Cheers Geoff

Well, the Speed Twin got it's first proper run this evening:

I have to admit it steers and holds a line very sweetly. Bops along nicely between 50-60 mph but the vibes do increase as you get to 70 mph.

OK, you can play "spot the oil leak" on the photo, but I'll get it fixed eventually :D

The Speed Twin got a "before and after" photo mention in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics "Show us Yours" pages this month. They must have been short of copy and desperate  .

I have ordered up a set of copper gaskets for the rocker covers and barrel base. Has anyone had any experience using this type in these applications.

The quality of the paper based ones does seem to vary so I was hoping these might solve my oil leak issues.

Hi Dave,

I anneal all copper gaskets from new, even washers etc. It will be essential this time because the sodding postman folded the bag to get it through the letter box

Hi Jimmy,

How the devil are you, is that 500 of yours tearing up the road yet. Mine sits up on the bench, I must get it down to floor level and get it out soon. I've been occupied with the Seeley Suzuki racer too much of late, getting it ready for the CRMC meeting at Pembrey over the Easter weekend. I seem to have (temporarily) passed the racing part over to a chap called Gary May who is several orders of magnitude faster than I am. If the engine performs consistently and he doesn't bin it we are looking for wins and a 500AC championship run. I now only have 35 days to go before departing the MOD, I can see a goodly chunk of my lump sum going on racing over the coming months, but hell, you can't take it with you :D :D :D .

Cheers Geoff
