Hi SD,

I cleaned the carbs again and took it out for a thrash, seemed to be going better engine wise. One thing I have to be aware of is the ol' CB750 only pushed out about 60 odd bhp so it isn't going to be like a modern day rocket ship. Saying that I managed to blow the end off the left hand silencer :( internal corrosion was worse than I was aware of. Both silencers had rust issues and I think repair and re-chroming is possible. Although if anyone has a pair of good Seeley Honda 750 silencers I'm in the market (well, you never know :D )

Cheers Geoff

I don't think the silencers are going to be sound enough for a reliable repair unfortunately :

It looks like I will need to get a pair of replicas made, had one quote for about £425 for a set made in stainless.

I did read in CB that original CB pipes are hard to get hold of and I expect the Seeley specials are rarer still. Those stainless replicas are probably better anyway.

Hi SD,

I believe you can get remanufactured replicas of the 4 pipe exhausts for the CB 750 (David Silver has them). As for original Seeley silencers I would offer 5 necklaces of Hens Teeth and a barrow load of Rocking Horse Poo for a set :D I think replicas are probably the only way forward.

I've been thinking about getting expansion pipes for the X5. I can get them made up, but they aren't cheap and they aren't standard stock.

I think I did have some rocking horse poo somewhere :)

I am having a set of replica Seeley silencers made in Stainless Steel by NRP exhausts up in Nottingham, the original header pipes are being re-chromed. I hope their newness and shininess does not look too out of place, although one ride on winter roads might instantly result in some level of "patina" .

I'll post some photos when everything arrives back.

Happy Yule season all,

The headers came back from their re-chroming. Also had the exhaust retainer thingies zinc plated.

Silencers should be ready after the festive period.

The s/s replica Seeley silencers arrived today. Not a 100% copy but pretty good.
