Hi.
Please can any one help with any info on these two machines.
One is my grandfather posing on his dispatch bike about halfway through WW1.
He used to tell me about how he often had to remove and dry the drive belt to
stop it slipping in wet conditions.
I remember a letter from Churchill for his determination to get the mail through all the action.
I simply can't remember the make of his bike though.
The other is my great grandfather and uncle leslie on uncles bike in the garden circa 1918-20.
Uncle died late 1920 as a result of the mustard gas in WW1.
The pic shows the reg but there seems to be no manufactures name on the tank.
Again any help indetifying the machine and i'd be very grateful.

Cheers
Chris.

Thanks Dam
Your'e spot on. Have googled it already and suprised at how many there are still around.
Seems they were chosen as army issue when they stopped using horses for despatches and communication in the field.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure you are correct having checked it against other photos of other James machines.
I guess my uncles bike is an early example having a belt drive as all the ones i have seen so far have chain drive .
Really grateful
Cheers
Chris.

No worries mate, I'll do a bit more digging if you like.

As you say it's an early one as it still has cycle style stirrup brakes on the front. There were so many motorcycle manufacturers in those days that it may be some obscure make, but at the moment I reckon James is the favourite possibility :)

Anything you can find will be helpful.
My mum has applied to DVLA with the REG NO or what we can make out to be the number from the photo in the hope something will come up.
I think it's the fork design that gives the make away.
Chris.
