Brake shoe help needed

Unread post by Iand » Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:35 am

I have a 20" rim on my bantam d3 and I need to get new brake shoes, now the shoes are a lot bigger than on the 19" rear, but the brake plate looks the same as on the parts lists for the bantam.
Does anyone have any ideas what te 20" wheel could have come from? It looks like an original Dunlop rim??

What are the measurements of the hub?
Diameter?
Depth?

If it looks similar to the Bantam rear then it might be a BSA hub - probably from a different model?

Photo would be useful.

There are specialists who will reline your existing shoes - if you have them.
Just being old doesn't make it a "Classic."

Aaaah! Nostalgia is not what it used to be!

it seems i may have jumped the gun, i believe it may be a later bantam or tiger cub hub.

Thanks

I vaguely recall that D1s and D3s with the earlier tele-forks (with the little rubber gaiters on the bottom) used a smaller hub (5"?) than the later D7s which was a little bigger (5.5"?) and a different fixing for the brake plate.

(Slot on the D1/ D3 and bolt-up on the D7 maybe)

I have never owned a Cub

(But did once briefly own the rustiest Terrier in the world.
It looked as if it had spent a decade or 3 at the bottom of a pond!
The only solid thing about it was the way it was all completely seized up - the fuel tank looked like lace!))
