bantam project

Unread postby shogun69 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 5:12 pm

Hi.all....Im thinking of buying a bantam or similar to tinker about with ...what do you think I should pay for a complete rough bike...is it worth the effort to put together one from parts...is it worth going to Newark auto jumble...any help please.....

They generally say that you should buy the best that you can and let some other poor sod pay for the build

Buying a bike bit by bit can work out expensive, and thinking that a £500 bike willl just need £250 and be fine is optimistic to say the least. Paint and wheels can cost a lot whatever bike you have unless a mate does it

Dunno about buying at a jumble but a good idea to research prices

To be honest, I'm not up on bantam prices

I have a couple of Cubs and they reach silly money
I can only suggest research on values and resist the urge to buy the first one you see

There must be a bantam forum butsure that others will chime in

I think £500 was paid for a D10 with an engine in bits but the rest restored by the ex Mrs Hooli a few years ago. It's worth about £1k finished as far as I know.

My last cub purchase was maybe 8 years ago

I paid £450 for a totally disassembled bike ( down to ball bearings) in old paint cans.
Because I know the bikes I went through it with a parts book but I am not finished yet.
Not that I do much month to month

It had no v5 but did have a reg number so I got a v5 replacement. But I had the guy's address from where I collected it

The are more cheap bantams than cheap Cubs though
